Blake Shelton's Song Admits Evils of Booze

By David J. Stewart

Here's the lyrics to country singer, Blake Shelton's song, The More I Drink...

He was sittin' at the bar, sippin' on a regular Coke
We were drinkin' and smokin' and makin' him the butt of our jokes
We all said, "Man, what happened to you? Why can't you just have a few?"
He said, "I would if I could, but it's probably best that I don't."

[Chorus]
Cause the more I drink, the more I drink
Yeah, I'm the world's greatest lover and a dancin' machine
I get loud, I get proud....and it gets worse
Well if I have one, I'll have thirteen
Naw, there ain't no in-between
Cause, the more I drink, the more I drink.

A couple of cold ones, and somebody hands me a shot.
Hell, even buck-tooth and bow-legged women start lookin' hot
And pretty soon I'm bummin' cigarettes and sweet talkin' some big brunette
Yeah, once I get on a roll, ain't no tellin' where I'll stop

[Chorus]

Yep-yep
Humm, that's what I'm talking about

Man, if I have one, I'll have thirteen
And they can't get me off the karaoke machine,
The more I drink...the more I drink.
Yeah, the more I drink, the more I drink, the more I drink.

(emphasis added)

Even the heathen world admits the evils of alcohol.  The song is correct, once you start drinking you often can't stop... Cause the more I drink, the more I drink.  Would to God that America's preachers would wake up and preach against the evils of alcohol once again, as Billy Sunday did.  The consequences of legalized liquor have been horrific.  To express the woes of booze would be ineffable.  One needs only go visit the local hospital emergency room to see first-hand the consequences of beer.  Blake Shelton is 100% correct... "Man, if I have one, I'll have thirteen... The more I drink...the more I drink. Yeah, the more I drink, the more I drink, the more I drink."  I've always questioned the sanity and honesty of the alcohol producers, who tell people to DRINK RESPONSIBLY.  How can you be responsible when you're drinking at all?  How can a person, after 2 or 3 beers, have enough sense not to drink 5 or 6?  They can't!

There is a woeful hypocrisy in our laws in the United States...

"The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's (NHTSA) position on the relationship between blood alcohol concentration and driving is that driving performance degrades after just one drink."

SOURCE: http://www.nhtsa.dot.gov/people/injury/New-fact-sheet03/Point08BAC.pdf

Which naturally raises the question... why should anyone be allowed to drive legally after drinking even one beer?  I mean, if our government is telling us that drinking even ONE BEER degrades people's driving performance, then why does the same government allow people to drink 2 or 3 beers (which will result in a BAC .08)?

It doesn't take much

Alcohol effects graphic

Actually, a driver can be impaired with a U.S. blood-alcohol level as low as .03.

When you drink alcohol, it goes straight from the stomach to the bloodstream. Alcohol can be detected in the blood as fast as five minutes after drinking, and its effects -- most obvious in the central nervous system -- peak in about 30 to 45 minutes.

Alcohol depresses the central nervous system which, in turn, impairs motor function, motor performance, speech and eye movements. These skills are not only slowed down, they are performed more inaccurately. Alcohol also affects the ability to think and reason clearly.

One Beer Often Leads to Another

...Man, if I have one, I'll have thirteen... The more I drink...the more I drink. Yeah, the more I drink, the more I drink, the more I drink.  It couldn't be any clearer that alcohol is liquid Devil.  Proverb 20:1 warns about the DECEIT of alcohol.  You can go anywhere in this world and you'll soon discover that alcohol and sin are inseparable.  Booze is the catalyst that makes it all happen.  Whether it be gambling, fornication, et cetera--you'll find beer.  Blake Shelton's song reveals the evils of booze, and why no one should drink it.  It's a game of Russian-roulette, where you're taking a chance every time you put alcohol into your body (alcohol is a drug by the way).  Do you think any beer drinker intends to kill someone while intoxicated?  No, but it happens!  Do you think any whiskey drinker intends to hurt a loved one while drunk?  No, but it happens every day.  Whether it be whiskey, beer, or champagne--alcohol is BAD NEWS!  Alcohol is dangerous, because... The more I drink...the more I drink. Yeah, the more I drink, the more I drink, the more I drink.  But don't forget, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's (NHTSA), even ONE DRINK makes a driver unfit to be on the road, because the alcohol has already degraded their ability to think clearly.

FACT: Most alcohol-related automobile accidents involve drivers who are NOT legally drunk (which is at .08); but, most fatalities involve drivers with a .08 BAC or higher.  Most companies will fire an employee for having a BAC of .04, and some at as low as .001 if a zero-tolerance policy exists.  -SOURCE

So why does the government allow people to drive machines weighing thousands of pounds, with a BAC of up to .79?  It's insanity!!!  With this knowledge, it should be obvious as to the woeful evils of booze.  In the U.S., between 1995 and 2005, 188,558 people were killed in alcohol-related accidents.  The world panicked in horror, when a Tsunami killed 200,000 people back in 2005; YET, more than that number of people have died in the past 15 years in America alone due to alcohol, and few people care.  1st Corinthians 6:10 condemns the SIN of drunkenness.  Tragically, American society glorifies such wickedness.  I didn't write this article to criticize Blake Shelton; but rather, to further expose the dangers of drinking any amount of alcohol.  Many people, who have handled their beer drinking well for years, have ended up in court for a DUI, or for involuntary manslaughter when they killed someone while drunk.  It only takes ONE TIME.  My pastor, Dr. Jack Hyles, used to wisely say... "You can't take two drinks of beer, if you don't take the first."

Alcohol tastes and feels good, but is rotten to the core!
